The canal boats

Enjoy a journey on the beautiful Telemark Canal. Discover a rich cultural history, a vibrant atmosphere and experience the waterlock chambers as they were used more than a hundred years ago. Witness the canal from the deck of one of the historical canalboats M/S Henrik Ibsen, M/S Victoria or the slighter younger M/S Telemarken.

M/S Henrik ibsen sails with M/S Victoria daily in a pendulum route from medio May til medio September and continues alone until early October. M/S Telemarken sails a separate route in the middle of the Canal from Norsjø/Akkerhaugen to Lunde and back every day in the period medio June until medio August.

M/S Henrik Ibsen

M/S Henrik Ibsen® was built in Gothenburg in 1907 and trafficked the Swedish coastline under the name M/S Styrsö up to 1993. It was then moved to the Telemark Canal and was renamed after the famous Skien poet Henrik Ibsen. The ship was totally refurbished in 2010, and her capacity today is 99 passengers.

M/S Victoria

M/S Victoria, also known as the “Canal Queen”, was built at Akers Mechanical Yards in Oslo, and was given construction number 93 at the time she was launched on the 11 February 1882. Since the beginning she has been sailing the waters and locks of the Telemark Canal.

M/S Telemarken

M/S Telemarken was built at Västerviks new shipyard in Sweden in 1951 and was one of the boats in the Stockholm archipelago. M/S Telemarken has been in service on the Telemark Canal since 1988. We are the only boat running from the Telemark Canal’s eastbound towards Notodden.
