Join us on board one of our historic canal ships as we sail through the upper locks of the canal and explore the majestic mountain landscape.

Experience the journey through the Kjeldal and Hogga locks and be impressed by the timeless engineering artistry.
Then, we follow the course of the river as we sail towards the tranquil lakes and steep mountain areas of upper Telemark.
You will disembark at Fjågesund pier, and you cycle the Canal Route to Straand Hotel.

Straand Hotel in Vrådal is one of Telemark's leading full-service hotels. 
Straand is a member of The Historic Hotels & Restaurants and is known for its pleasant atmosphere and good food. 
The walls hold several hundred years of history, so feel free to enjoy a cup of coffee or Afternoon Tea in one of the old lounges at the hotel.

 Straand Hotel has 6 different cycling routes. 
 We recommend taking the route up to Vrådal Panorama for a unique experience in their sauna. 
 Remember to book in advance!

Day 3:
- Enjoy the delicious hotel breakfast.
- Todays bike trip goes from Straand Hotel to Lunde, approx. 55 km.

Practical information during the canal cruise:

Parking: 
Your car can be parked at the parking lot 200 meters from Lunde lock. 
There is no need for parking permit.

Meals on board: 
There is a restaurant on board.  
Including in this packed is Todays 2-course lunch.
You can also order food directly at the boat from their menu without prebooking. 
It is not possible to book a table for the entire journey, and you can’t bring your own food.

Bicycles on board:
Before you board the canal boat, please be sure to empty you bicycle, and bicycle trailer, for luggage.  
It is important that they are as light as possible before they are lifted on the top of the boat.  
The owner must be attending in both loading and unloading. 
Maximum weight for bicycles is 25 kg. 
Please note that we do not have the capacity to welcome tricycles or other large cycles. 
El-bikes: It is prohibited to charge batteries on board due to fire hazard. 
Please note that all equipment is transported at your own risk.

Practical information about Straand Hotel:

Dining: 
Dinner is served in the restaurant in the evening.  
Time to be agreed directly with the hotel staff when checking in.
Dinner is served either as a 3-course dinner or a buffet, depending on the number of guests that day.

Facilities:
Straand Hotel has its own beach at the lake Nisser. 
Here they have a waterpark and a beach bar during the summer. 
The hotel also has its own indoor swimming pool.
M/S Fram, the hotels’ veteran ship, sails on Nisser and Vråvatn. 
Tickets can be bought in the hotel reception.

Practical information about the cycle trips:

Fjågesund-Vrådal:
It is approx. 19,5 km from Fjågesund to Vrådal.
The road is farily little trafficked by cars, and it is on asphalt.
The route is part of National Cycle Routes nr 2.
Remember to bring enough food and water, as it is not possible to buy along the way.
You should also bring a headlamp or a reflective vest, as there is a tunnel without lights on the stretch.
The last kilometers have steep inclines.

Vrådal-Lunde:
It is approx. 55 km from Vrådal to Lunde.
The road consists mainly of asphalt, but a small part is on gravel.
Remember to bring enough food and water, as it is not possible to buy along the way.
You should also bring a headlamp or a reflective vest, as there are two tunnels without lights on the stretch.

Interesting sites to see along the way:

"Murane"
This part of the bike route is a well preserved part of the original road that connected lake Norsjø in the south to the northern lakes of Flåvatn, Kviteseidvatnet and Bandak.
The 1,7 km long gravel road is know for the rocks that separates the road from the canal, which is a old tradition.

Kilen Camping
Be sure to stop here for a while.
On a warm day, their beach is perfect for a quick swim.
During the summer, they also have a kiosk that serves food - remember to check their opening hours on their own website!

Kviteseid bygdetun
This is on of Norways oldest open air museums.
It was established in 1907, and has a collection of old buildings from different farms throughout the area.
Some of them are even from farms that date back to the "Black Death".
The museum is meant to show what a prosperous farm would have looked like for over 200 years ago.
